Now that all the wonder that is Paris Couture Week has come and gone, I think I can safely announce my favorite collection of the Spring 2014 Couture season. Valentino's operatic inspiration bowled me over, and Alexis Mabille's Greco-Roman living statues put on quite the show, but it was Zuhair Murad's over-the-top femininity that won my heart.
At their laciest, Murad's designs call to mind Givenchy in the halcyon days when Givenchy still did couture (RIP), and at their most ornate, I couldn't help but see a little Elie Saab. I admit it: there's nothing ground breaking here, nothing new or avant garde, but the pure beauty of it all makes my heart skip a beat. It's a completely emotional reaction, but isn't that what fashion as art is all about?
Lesson learned? A gold waist cincher goes with anything.
