Caterpillar House by Jeffers Design Group

[photos by Joe Fletcher via Jeffers Design Group]

I can't remember how Jeffers Design Group landed on my radar, but I'm awfully impressed by the interior they designed for the glass and steel Caterpillar House in California's Carmel Valley.

It would have been all too easy for JDG to stick to the stark modernism of so many similar glass box homes. Instead, the firm managed to imbue the residence with the warmth of a midcentury ranch, reflecting the architect's original inspiration and the surrounding landscape of the San Lucia Preserve.

Built by Feldman Architecture, the Caterpillar House is the first LEED Platinum custom home on the California Central Coast.

  1. Wow simply stunning and modern. I like its openness and it looks like it has great light! I love how it's captured in the photos. :)

  2. Gorgeous. And it makes me feel like nobody's going to be playing Skyrim in their pj's all day if they lived there.

  3. It is really cool and open, but I'd feel very vulnerable in that house!

  4. Haha - I didn't think of that, but I guess you're right! You'd have to invest in some good curtains. :)
