Falling for Bordeaux

You may already know that jewel tones are (cliche alert) the new black, and my favorite of these is the deepest of ruby reds. Bordeaux, merlot, oxblood - call it whatever you'd like. I'm utterly obsessed.

The search is on right now for an oversize sweater and perfect-fitting trousers in this hue (to wear separately, of course). The downside of being ultra picky, though, is that I'm shooting down anything that isn't just right on my petite frame. Any suggestions?

Out Of Print

Following up on those book clutches that so many of you loved, this morning I came across these literary iPhone cases by Out of Print. Brilliant! I think these are the first printed phone covers I've seen that I actually like.

Best of all, for each product that Out of Print sells, they donate one book to a community in need through Books for Africa. (More shopping for a good cause. The retail biz is making it awfully easy to justify a purchase these days.)

The timing of my discovery couldn't have been better. I just traded in my half-dead Blackberry for a shiny new iPhone 4S. And, to preemptively answer your questions - yes, I love it, and yes, Siri is my new best friend. Hope you're all having a happy Monday!

Miniaudières Classiques by Olympia Le-Tan

I'm sure some of you have seen book clutches before (even Kate Spade sells a version), but my real-life friend, Becky, just sent me the link to these beauties by Olympia Le-Tan. So thoughtful!

The miniaudières are made of embroidered canvas and brass hardware and are lined in Liberty-print fabric. I can think of one blogger/book lover in particular who I suspect will be ordering one as soon as she chooses her favorite.

Go Shopping, Save the Rainforest

Art by Janiana Tscäpe / Shirt by Janaina Tschäpe for Anne Fontaine

I love seeing art translated into fashion - especially when it's for a good cause. Anne Fontaine has teamed up with German-Brazilian artist Janaina Tschäpe on Precieuse, an organic line of shirts and collars to benefit the Anne Fontaine Foundation in its mission to save the Brazilian Atlantic Forest.

The collection arrives in stores on October 20th, just in time for Forest Day (who knew?), and sales of Precieuse products will benefit reforestation efforts in Brazil's Mata Atlântica. Plus, in celebration of Forest Day, half of all sales at Anne Fontaine stores tomorrow will be donated to the foundation.

If you're in Boston, you can check out Tschäpe's designs and original window artwork tomorrow at the Anne Fontaine store at Heritage on the Garden, right by the Arlington T stop.

We are the (Modern) World

I'm in love! It's called the Modern World Map, but there's something decidedly retro about this design from These Are Things. Each 20"x 30" print is silkscreened in four colors in the Ohio apartment-turned-studio of designers Jen Adrion and Omar Noory.

The aqua version matches the color scheme of my living room, but what I'd really like to do is hang all four together on an empty white wall.

Le Lodge Park Megève

[all photos via Le Lodge Park]

I realize that we're just on the verge of sweater weather. We have yet to prematurely hang holiday decorations, snow is weeks away, and ski season is even more distant. But I can't stare at these photos for much longer without sharing them.

Le Lodge Park came to my attention when Tablet Hotels featured this rustic ski chalet among its private sales. Located in the French Alpine town of Megève, the property is owned by the Sibuet family, who are known for their farmhouse hotels throughout France.

Indian Summer Wedding

Source: None via Sonali on Pinterest

I'm going to my very first Indian wedding on this Indian summer day (85° in Boston), and I couldn't be more excited! I'm not quite sure what to expect other than total sensory overload (and hopefully some delicious Indian food). I'm off to get ready, but I'm sure I'll be under-dressed no matter what I wear next to those beautiful saris. Enjoy the rest of your weekends!

Boston Fashion Week: GALVIN-ized Headwear

Boston Fashion Week has come to an end, but I'd be remiss not to share some photos from the GALVIN-ized Headwear show that I attended last Monday. Designer Marie Galvin is a favorite of mine for her creativity, kindness and spunk, and her show did not disappoint.

The fascinators were the highlight of the evening for their glamor and dramatic flair, if not for their ultimate wearability. As they came down the runway, I yearned for the '40s - or at least a royal wedding to attend. More practical were the chunky knits with oversize pompoms (which have gone straight to the top of my winter wish list) and '70s-inspired floppy hats in shades of bordeaux.

Joseph Gordon Cleveland of Contra was spot on with the styling with clothing borrowed from Neiman Marcus. The pieces were rich-looking in their own right but were streamlined enough to play off the hats rather than detract attention from them.
