Oh, Christmas Tree

I know it sounds antithetical to be a Jew with a lust for Christmas trees, but don't we all want what we can't have? I've grown out of it to some degree: multicolored lights and green and red tinsel just don't do it for me anymore. Then I see trees like Noelani's of Mon Petite Chou Chou, and I'm right back where I started.

It's really a desire to decorate, not to celebrate Christmas, but I want a tree damn it! It would be white and silver and glittery, and it would look an awful lot like Lani's. It would be a winter solstice tree, and maybe I would even top it with a Star of David to assuage the Jewish guilt. Lani tells me those butterflies aren't even Christmas ornaments; they're magnets from Paper Source.

Holly of Covetous Creatures also went the non-traditional route and covered her pink tree in black ornaments from Ikea. She let me decorate it when I was at her house last Sunday because, apparently, Christians get sick of doing this every year (how?!), whereas I get positively giddy.

[The deer was all Holly, cause she's creative like that.]

Some other non-traditional trees that have me seeing green...

Any non-Christians out there with a tree? What does yours look like?

  1. I think my favourites are the ones from Southern Living and Apartment Therapy.

Trust me, it really does get boring decorating it every year! But when you take it down the room always looks sad and bare without it.

  2. Gorgeous! Thanks for including me (and for doing such a lovely job on the tree)! That pink tree from apartment therapy was my exact inspiration. I still have all the pink and pearl ornaments from a few years ago, but last year I decided to change it up a little.

  4. I love this. I'm sort of a christmas tree and christmas light freak. I don't think it has to do with christmas itself for me either, but they just make me feel good. These are really cool!

  6. I think regardless of religion, Christmas trees are (or can be) really beautiful things. They so much fun and are a really special decoration. I'm all for making your own traditions so if you want a tree you should have one, make it super pretty and have it stand for whatever you want it too!

That being said I went all classic red & gold this year and I love it!

  11. I love Holly's tree and the deer! So perfect! Mine looks slightly more official since I got my act together and wrapped a few gifts finally. I am going to steal Holly's idea for ornaments all in one color next year, maybe pink or blue? That's a good reason to hit some post Christmas sales!

  12. I LOVE white Christmas trees and yet have never had one. I'm still sentimental towards traditional trees but am so attracted to ones that are more unconventional and have a little element of surprise. They just seem magical! Sigh...some day! xx

  15. Omg. That blue and white tree...reminds me of Tiffany's...and that pink tree in the pink room. I'm in love with them. Soo gorgeous and fabulous. I celebrate the holiday but I have a feeling you would do it more fabulously than I do!! I just think with all the stress and exhaustion this year, my heart isn't into it. But if I had money, well, that would be another story. ;)
