Vogue U.K. March 2008 [via Fashion Gone Rogue]
This season's tribal influence has nothing on Vogue U.K., who apparently called it way back in '08 with this editorial by Mario Testino.
While Vogue's iteration is decidedly South American, we're seeing a greater variation this spring, with more African patterns than you can shake a stick at. (Yes, I know that's the most nonsensical expression ever.) But Pendleton's collaboration with... well, pretty much everyone brings it back to the Western hemisphere.
Pendleton Meets Opening Ceremony launched in fall '09 and continues with a spring '10 collection.
Pendleton X Nike ACG (All Condition Gear) was a 2008 collaboration, but a new men's ACG collection is in the works for the fall. (Definitely a good move on Nike's part, even if they are a bit late getting back on the tribal bandwagon.)
Even Jill Rappaport of The Today Show got in on the Pendleton love with a collection of coats, bags and pet accessories.
And the latest is Pendleton for Urban Outfitters, featuring towels, blankets, wallets and even a checkbook cover.
To be honest, all of these Pendleton Navajo prints are screaming "early '90s" to me, and I can't quite get into it. I find myself preferring subtler interpretations, like those from Diane von Furstenberg's Resort 2010 collection. But there is something to be said for authenticity, no?
i love the photo shoot and this style
ReplyDeletethe layering and colours are just immense ^^
I love those top pics too - they look very current, don't they?
ReplyDeleteLove this imagery...thanks for revisiting it. I'm totally obsessed with tribal at the moment, but am having a time trying to score decent ikat on the local scene. On the hunt, as always.
